The people faced acute drought conditions in certain areas of Sindh and Balochistan, the southern and south-western provinces of Pakistan from 1999 to 2002 because of a long dry spell. Apart from loss of precious
human lives, this resulted in enormous loss of crops, livestock and natural resources, squeezing livelihood opportunities and resources for sustenance.

PFF and its leadership have been active for ensuring fishing rights for fisher people, availability of water in the Indus River and health and educational facilities for the fishing community. Thousands of fishermen, women and children are standing shoulder to shoulder with PFF in this struggle. The “forceful challenge' posed by the fisher people to the all-powerful state institutions are a source of inspiration for the people fighting for their rights.”
